Our history timeline shows how we have grown rapidly since our foundation in 1946. We have continued to evolve and develop strongly by working with a diverse range of talented clients and dedicated employees. With the solid foundations of our core values and our long-standing family-orientated heritage, we continue to create an innovative, exciting and motivating working environment.

1946

North Midland Construction (NMC) commenced trading on 6th December 1946 as a partnership between William Morris and Major Terence Moyle. Starting out with what is now the Group’s Highways Division and Utilities Division, laying ducts for the Post Office on a contract in Alfreton, Derbyshire.

1966

The NMC brand progressively became established working all over England and Wales on General Post Office duct contracts and road maintenance contracts. The company was floated on the Birmingham Stock Exchange in 1966 at which time it had a turnover of £250,000 p.a.

1970

In 1970 NMC introduced a Civil Engineering Division, bringing in two experienced directors in Jim Horabin and George Michael, who expanded the business over the next 20 years. Since 1990 an enthusiastic management team has increased turnover and profit steadily by expanding geographically, increasing the client base and increasing the value of contracts undertaken. The reputation of the company, with its many blue-chip clients, is a testimony to the ethos handed down by the original founders and management team.

With new markets to be explored two subsidiary companies were set up.

North Midland Building Limited (NMB) was formed in 1995 to focus exclusively on the building sector, operating nationwide, to provide high quality building construction services to a wide range of blue-chip companies. Although NMB had many successes, in 2012 it was decided that NMB would become a division of NMC and cease trading as a limited company. The decision was made in response to the difficult market conditions at this time.

1998

Nomenca Limited was established in 1998 as the Mechanical and Electrical subsidiary of NMC. Nomenca Limited operates in a variety of industries as a specialist Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (MEICA) contractor.
