A £4 million project will see a student accommodation scheme built on the former car park of The Goose pub on Bristol Road in Selly Oak, Birmingham. The building division of North Midland Construction PLC (NM Group) has been appointed by Victoria Halls Management Limited as the contractor for the scheme.
The university halls will be made up of four individual blocks, containing flats with five to six single bedrooms. It will house 63 beds in total.
Work has just started on the project and the development will be completed in August this year – ready for student intake at the beginning of the 2017/18 academic year.
Nick Banks, operations director of the building division of NM Group said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Birmingham and its vast number of students – both existing and prospective.
“We’re thoroughly pleased to be working with Victoria Halls once again after the successful development of Allen House, a similar project in Leicester.
“This new student accommodation will help with the increased demand for student housing in Birmingham.”
Although independent from the University of Birmingham, the halls of residence will appeal to students studying at the nearby campus.
NM Group’s building division previously worked with Victoria Halls Management Limited on the refurbishment of Allen House, in Newarke Street, Leicester. This was a £15.25million project completed in the summer of last year which saw the revamp of the historic 1920s local landmark along with an accompanying new build to create 387 student residences.
