Residential Facility for Canine Partners
The project involved the construction of a new short stay accommodation block at Osgathorpe in North West Leicestershire for the national charity Canine Partners. The charity transforms the lives of people living with disabilities by training amazing assistance dogs.
The new building provided short stay living accommodation for residents and training facilities for puppies to become assistance dogs. When fully trained, a Canine Partner can do anything their disabled owner needs them to do – whether it be helping to get dressed or undressed, load the washing machine, retrieve notes from a cash machine
The new centre in the Midlands will mean the charity can increase the number of partnerships it creates each year to meet the huge demand, it will also reduce the amount of travel needed for people to receive a canine partner.
The scheme was awarded Best Residential Facility at the Forum of the Built Environment Awards in 2016.
