As a company accredited to BS EN ISO 14001 NMC have been entrusted with a number of environmentally sensitive projects and Highways & Special Projects Division have recently completed three such projects.

Creswell Crags
The lake at this SSSI, World Heritage Site and Scheduled Ancient Monument required clearing of silt. This was handled sensitively, with the fish being removed first and a requisite amount of silt retained to restore the ecological balance on re-filling. Repairs were also carried out to the dam and outflow control structure.

North Midland Construction Wetland Feature and Balancing Pond
NMC have constructed an attractive ecological feature at the headquarters and operations yard at Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire This included:-
Culverting of a highways drain outfall ditch; construction of a wetland feature including a feature boardwalk bridge to aid safer pedestrian routes on site; construction of a balancing pond for containing increased flows from the proposed development of part of Company land; diversion of adopted public foul sewers; obtaining Environment Agency consent; obtaining Planning Permission; introduction of soft landscaping and an outdoor relaxation area as part of our 'Investors in People' Programme; upgrading of water quality; development of a pond planting scheme in conjunction with ESL (Ecological Services) Ltd; detailed design and construction.
The project was awarded a Certificate of Commendation by the
Institution of Civil Engineers in April 2005.

Re-instatement of the capacity of a Balancing Pond, set in the grounds of Hempshill Hall by the excavation of silt deposits.

North Midland Construction PLC Head Office Grey Water Tanks
We practice what we preach and during the construction of Head Office and workshops extensions, grey water tanks have been installed. The roof water from the buildings will be stored in the tanks and re-used for vehicle washing, thus helping both the environment and our water bills. Robert Moyle, Chairman & Managing Director and Naomi Warr, Environmental Manager, are seen inspecting the filters for the grey water tanks (behind).
