Sandwell & Dudley MDU

Built on the site of disused sidings adjacent to Sandwell & Dudley Station, this £3,050,00 design and build project comprised a 2000m2 modular building and a 1000m2 steel frame warehouse with a 500m2 mezzanine floor, fulfilling Network Rail’s requirement for a bespoke maintenance depot as a management hub with welfare and stores facilities for operational gangs. The facility also required full M&E fit out to the warehouse, and a high quality fit out to the modular building.

King Street, Dukinfield

Part of the Bridgeguard 3 programme for Network Rail, our £1,080,078 project involved strengthening of this road over rail bridge, replacement of the decks of two spans, new parapets to a third span and arch infil to two further spans. The demolition and placing of new beams and parapets was undertaken in one 29hr and two 54hr possessions. Throughout the road closure, pedestrian access was maintained by a temporary footbridge, whilst utility services were suspended from North Midland's specially designed temporary bridges. During this project, North Midland were also tasked with the lowering and reinstatement of non-standard OHLE.

Wellington Road, Stockport

This Bridgeguard 3 project involved strengthening with reinforced overslabs to two outer spans and a full replacement of the deck and parapets of the centre span. The demolition and placing of the new beams was carried out in two 54hr possessions of the railway. A closure of the A6, lasting several weeks, was necessary, during which, pedestrian access was maintained using temporary footbridges, suspending utilities in place or diverting them on to scaffold bridges. A crash deck was also established to protect permanent way and S&T cables.

Bilston Lane, Willenhall

As part of the Bridgeguard 3 programme, Bilston Lane involved bridge strengthening and replacement of the deck. This road over rail bridge carries the A462 over the electrified Proof House Junction line. Pre-demolition works included the stabilisation and grouting of the existing abutments and construction of new piled bearing shelves. The demolition and placing of new beams and parapets was undertaken in two 54hr possessions of the railway.

Danzey Green Overbridge, Warwickshire

At £443,000 this contract called for the demolition of the existing and construction of a new bridge deck, parapets and ancillary work. Piling to stabilise the approach retaining walls was also undertaken within the contract. The main possession of 72 hours for the bridge deck demolition and installation of the precast work was reduced on site to 58 hours. The project value was £680k.

Rail Viaduct Bridges, Castle Donington

The contract involved three bridges of a viaduct on the freight link between Sawley and Willington Junctions. The bridges, of brick and masonry arch construction, one with a steel and concrete centre section, were stripped of ballast and fill material to expose the arches and steel deck. Concreting work to the saddle arches with dwarf walls to the inner faces of the spandrel walls and waterproofing and relaying of ballast were undertaken to complete the project to the upgrade required for £770k. The contract was completed within Network Rail's six week blockade period.

A60 Overbridge, Loughborough Station

The complete deck and parapet replacement on the Midland Mainline at Loughborough Station required a 54 hour line possession and the closure of the A60 with comprehensive traffic management for the duration of the work. Service supplies crossing the bridge included a high pressure primary gas main and a cluster of twelve 11,000 volt main cables all of which maintained their supply throughout the contract. A temporary pedestrian footbridge was provided due to the length of the highway diversion. Existing passenger services were maintained on adjacent lines.
