Bar Mill Coiler, Rotherham

Corus Steels Rotherham awarded the construction of the civils works required for a new Bar Mill Coiler to NMC.
The project enabled the fitting out of the Mill to increase the product range to include coiled products in addition to existing range of square and round section bar.
Construction included water retaining structures, together with significant reinforced pits and foundations all undertaken in a live operational foundry.



Drystone Quarry, Plant Infrastructure, Leicestershire

North Midland Construction completed for Bardon Aggregates new plant infrastructure at Coalville for £2.2 million. The works encompassed reinforced access ramp, temporary retaining walls, plant foundation bases in 150m³ pours. A 64m insitu reinforced concrete surge pile recovery tunnel cast at 13½° to the horizontal and a 77m x 5.5m diameter cut and cover tunnel. All work was undertaken in an operational quarry environment.



Stainless Steel Billet Caster, Sheffield

Avesta Polarit Stainless Steel relied upon NMC to enhance their operational activity with the construction of a 6 Strand Billet Caster in their live and operational foundry. At £3.5 million. The project required 8,000 cubic metres of concrete to be cast in a reinforced concrete turret, caster bed, cooling bed, water tanks and pump house. Also included were water and acid process facilities.



Enabling and Groundworks, Loughborough

This contract called for the completion of groundworks and enabling works on a fast track programme to facilitate the construction of a new Research and Development resource for Astra Zeneca at Loughborough at £2,000,000.

The contract called for reinforced concrete foundations, ground stabilisation by compaction and stone counter ports. The ground being contaminated and having an already high water table which necessitated the need for extensive de-watering and structural monitoring of existing adjacent laboratories. The contract was extended by the award of infrastructure works including access roads, block paving, hard and soft landscaping and ancillary work.
