North Midland Building Ltd (NMB) was formed in 1995 to focus exclusively on the building sector, operating nationwide, to provide high quality building construction services to a wide range of blue chip companies. NMB now undertakes schemes from £1 Million to £40 million in both the public and private sectors.

Nomenca Ltd was formed in 1998 as the Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (MEICA) contracting arm of the North Midland Construction Group. Nomenca’s scope includes design and project management of MEICA and turnkey works in the water, power, rail, defense and industrial sectors.

History

North Midland Construction was started on 6th December 1946 as a partnership between William Morris and Major Terence Moyle. Starting off laying ducts for the Post Office on a contract in Alfreton, Derbyshire, it progressively became established working all over England and Wales on General Post Office duct contracts and road maintenance contracts. It was floated on the Birmingham Stock Exchange in 1966 at which time its turnover was £250,000 pa.

In 1970 it started a civil engineering subsidiary, bringing in two experienced directors in Jim Horabin and George Michael, who expanded the business over the next 20 years. Since 1990 an enthusiastic management team has increased turnover and profit steadily by expanding geographically, increasing its client base and increasing the value of contracts undertaken. The reputation of the company, with its many blue-chip clients is a testimony to the ethos handed down by the original founders and managers.

In 1982, NMC gained a full quotation as a Public Limited Company on the Stock Exchange giving it access to a wide variety of financial backing.

In 1999, Major Terence Moyle retired as Chairman, after 54 years service. The new Chairman and Chief Executive, Robert Moyle (his son) took over the reins, having already been with the company for over 25 years.

With new markets to be explored two subsidiary companies were set up. North Midland Building Ltd in 1995 and Nomenca Ltd in 1998.
