The Group set itself a target for 2010 to reduce it's Carbon Footprint by 10% from the 2009 figure. It is pleased to report that it beat that target, so has now set a new target to reduce this again for 2011 by a further 10%.

As part of this commitment it will:

reduce it's monthly business milage.

reduce it's monthly gas and electricity consumption at Head Office.

reduce monthly gas and electricty consumption at it's regional offices.

introduce a travel plan for it's employees.

Carbon Footprint

The Group is committed to carbon reduction, and recognises that a number of competing methods are used to measure carbon footprint. We have monitored and measured our environmental impact for many years and published these in the Group Annual Environmental Statement.

In 2008 the Carbon Trust formally measured our carbon footprint and it was shown to be approximately 5,700 Tonnes CO2.In 2009 we started a programme of reducing our impact on the environment with a focus on our main contribution to carbon which was transport movements. A number of commercial vehicles were fitted with speed limiting software as a trial and the CO2 emissions of company cars were reduced. This was in addition to a number of environmentally friendly features incorporated in our head office extension opened in January 2008, shown below;

Latest efficient luminaries, light tubes, PIR controls, rainwater harvesting & solar water heating incorporated at our Head Office site.
Improvement of staff awareness on energy saving.
Introduction of speed limiters to increase fuel efficiency.
Revised Company Car Policy.
Encouragement of conference calls, video conferencing techniques, & car sharing.
Lockers, showers and bike racks for employees who cycle to work

The company intends to continue to reduce its impact on the environment and reduce the carbon footprint using targeted KPI's each year.
